If you've booked packers and movers before, you've probably experienced some version of this: a quote over the phone, a different number when the crew arrives, and a final bill that's higher still once "extra" items, floors, or packing materials get added in.

Why verbal quotes tend to creep upward

A phone quote is, at best, an estimate based on a rough description of your home — "2BHK" doesn't tell anyone how much furniture you actually own, how many boxes you'll need, or whether there's a lift in the building. Without a proper inventory, operators often quote low to win the booking, then add charges once the crew is already on-site and you have little leverage to negotiate or walk away.

What to ask before you book

  • Is this quote based on an actual inventory, or a rough description?
  • What specifically is excluded — packing materials, stairs, long carrying distance, disassembly?
  • Is the price locked in writing, or subject to change on the day?

What a better process looks like

An itemized quote — based on what's actually moving, not a guess — removes almost all of this uncertainty. It's also why ShipYou's in-app quote process asks for a real inventory upfront: the price you see before you book is the price you pay, with no surprises when the crew shows up.
