A trucking company running even a modest fleet used to have very little real-time insight into where its vehicles actually were, how they were being driven, or when a part was about to fail.
Putting sensors where the data actually is
Samsara's approach was to put connected hardware — GPS trackers, dashboard cameras, engine diagnostics — directly into vehicles and equipment, feeding a live dashboard fleet managers could check instead of waiting for a driver to call in. Instead of a trip log filled in at the end of the day, a fleet manager can see a vehicle's location and condition the moment something changes.
Why this is bigger than tracking a dot on a map
The real value is catching problems early — a vehicle idling too long, harsh braking patterns that predict an accident risk, an engine signal that flags a breakdown before it happens on the highway. Fleet management went from reactive to largely preventative.
It's the same bar we're building ShipYou's own vehicle tracking toward — not just a map pin, but enough visibility to catch a problem before it becomes a missed delivery window.
